A shҽlter dog on dҽaтh rσw is тerrified and unable to walƙ

Every animal, be it a dog or a cat, deserves a loving home and a second chance at life. Sadly, due to space constraints, numerous shelters are forced to euthanize both young and aged animals in their care.

There are millions of dogs and cats in shelters worldwide, all yearning for the day they'll be taken home by a loving family. However, some find themselves on what's ominously referred to as 'death row'. Each of these creatures is on borrowed time, their lives hanging in the balance until an adoption deadline, after which they face euthanization.

Mocha, a one-year-old Pit Bull mix, found herself in this dire situation at the Rowan County Animal Shelter in Salisbury, North Carolina. Abandoned by her owner alongside another dog, Mocha was condemned through no fault of her own. She was given an adoption deadline of November 1st, beyond which, if unadopted, she would face euthanasia.

Shivering in her crate from fear, Mocha was overlooked by potential adopters. She had been surrendered, flea-ridden and paralyzed by fear. Albina Albiie Chanel, a volunteer at the shelter, was deeply affected by Mocha's plight and was determined to show her that not all humans are unkind. Albina was committed to offering Mocha a glimmer of hope in finding a forever home.

Albina shared her distress online, expressing her horror at the cruelty Mocha had faced. She wrote, "She is a skeleton, covered in fleas, she shakes constantly and doesn’t even want to get up to walk. Hang in there Mocha baby."

In a bid to raise awareness about Mocha's predicament, Albina penned a poignant letter from Mocha's perspective and posted it on Facebook. The letter began, "Dear humans, As I sit here on death row totally defeated, I hope my puppies will at least have a better life than I did."

It continued with, "I shake so much in my kennel that people just walk past me. I am so skinny but I love to eat. I tried to be brave for my pictures today but I couldn’t even really get up."

The heart-wrenching letter concluded with a plea, "Please consider adopting me and giving me a chance at a good life. But please know I may take a while to warm up because I’m just so scared. Love, Mocha.”

The post swiftly went viral, with thousands of people reacting, commenting, and sharing. Fortuitously, a compassionate individual saw Mocha's story and rushed to the shelter to rescue her. Albina updated the post to inform everyone that both Mocha and her sister were safe.

In an emotional follow-up letter to Mocha, Albina wrote, "Dear Mocha, I sat with you and wrote a letter for the whole world to see. And they did. Happy 2nd chance sweet girl. May you finally be loved and taken care of forever."

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the kind soul who saved Mocha. She represents the countless animals on death row, each awaiting a loving home. To combat this, consider adopting or fostering, and remember to spay or neuter your pets. Let's adopt, not shop, to end death row in shelters.
