Sad & Scared Dog Who Had His Ears Ripped Off Just Wants to Cuddle & Find a Forever Home

In a heart-wrenching incident, a dog became the victim of a vicious attack by two other canines, leaving him scarred both physically and emotionally. Greenville County Animal Care issued an urgent plea for a volunteer to transport the injured dog to a veterinary clinic, and Fran Alexay Rizzo, a devoted animal lover, answered the call without hesitation.

Legend, as he came to be known, was rescued after two compassionate women who were out for a walk heard distressing sounds emanating from a nearby home. Curiosity led them to investigate, only to witness two Pit Bulls ruthlessly tearing into the defenseless dog. Swift action was taken as animal control was summoned, and all three dogs were promptly brought to Greenville County Animal Care.

Upon setting eyes on Legend, Alexay was confronted with a sight that stirred her soul. Blood and bite marks marred his body, with his left ear brutally torn off and his right ear barely attached by a thread. His entire being was covered in the evidence of the brutal attack, marked by deep puncture wounds and relentless bites.

"The wounds extended from his shoulders forward," recalled Rizzo in an interview with The Greenville News. "Some wounds were so severe that blood would ooze out whenever he moved."

Initially, the outlook appeared grim. Legend's chances of survival were uncertain, as the trauma inflicted upon his small frame was immense. Yet, true to his name, he possessed an indomitable spirit and managed to persevere through his first critical night. Over the course of several days, he underwent surgery, received vital fluids, and was supported by a feeding tube. Slowly but surely, his condition began to improve.

There were moments of setback, with his wounds swelling a few days later. However, the tenacious pup continued to rally, defying the odds. As the medical bills began to mount, Rescue Dogs Rock NYC stepped forward, generously offering assistance in covering Legend's veterinary expenses. Jackie O'Sullivan, co-founder of the organization, expressed their delight at his progress, stating, "We're thrilled with the outcome and glad he's alive. It's a miraculous story, and he's touched a lot of people."

Though Legend lost his ears and bears the physical scars of his ordeal, his resilient spirit remains unbroken. In fact, his disposition radiates with boundless joy. His tail wags incessantly, and he delights in showering Fran with affectionate kisses.

Fran, who has formed an inseparable bond with Legend, finds herself contemplating the possibility of adopting him every day. Their connection is profound, and she describes him as "the sweetest thing" she has ever fostered. However, she recognizes that she cannot continue to foster other dogs for Greenville County Animal Care, an organization in desperate need of more foster homes.

Fran ardently hopes that compassionate individuals will step forward and offer their support by fostering dogs for Greenville County Animal Care. The need for caring homes is pressing, and every foster parent can make a significant difference.

In the meantime, Fran, along with the dedicated team at Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, is determined to find the perfect forever home for Legend—one where he will be cherished, loved, and provided with the security and happiness he deserves.

Legend's story serves as a poignant reminder that appearances can be deceiving. By not judging a book solely by its cover, we open ourselves up to the extraordinary stories that may lie beneath the scars. Legend's resilience and capacity for love serve as an inspiration, demonstrating the remarkable strength of the canine spirit.
