An elderly blind dog sat on the concrete in the hot sun, tied to a pole with a note
Officer Boone of Richmond Pet Care and Control responded to a phone complaint about a dog that had been abandoned and chained to a post.
Upon arrival, he found an elderly Schnauzer-Poodle mix, Oreo, chained to a pole with nothing to eat or drink on a warm Virginia street corner. A note was attached to his chain that read, "My name is Oreo. I'm over a decade old. I'm stressed out. My owner has died. I need a residence."
Oreo was terrified and overwhelmed as he could barely see or hear. Officer Boone immediately took him to RACC's aftercare medical checkup. Despite losing his sight and hearing, Oreo was found to be in excellent health.
It was time to find a loving home for Oreo to spend his golden years, and it didn't take long. A woman in Fredericksburg offered to give Oreo a home and a new doggie brother to play with on her 5-acre property.
Oreo's golden years will now be spent in the company of his new family and with plenty of room to play.
The new family was delighted to welcome Oreo into their home, and they could see right away that he was a special dog. They gave him all the love and attention he could ever want, and Oreo was grateful for his new family.
As he settled into his new life, Oreo's personality began to shine. Despite his age, he had a playful and mischievous side that delighted his new family. He loved nothing more than to play fetch and chase his new doggie brother around the yard.
Even though he couldn't see or hear very well, Oreo was always eager to explore and sniff around his new home. His new family loved watching him explore and discover new things.
Oreo's new family knew that they had given him a second chance at life, and they were so happy to see him thriving. They were grateful to Officer Boone and the Richmond Pet Care and Control team for rescuing Oreo and giving him a chance to find a new home.
Oreo's story is a reminder that senior dogs still have so much love to give, and they deserve to spend their golden years in a loving home. If you're considering adopting a dog, don't overlook the older dogs at the shelter. They may just surprise you with their love and vitality.
Thankfully, Oreo found his happy ending and his new family will make sure he spends the rest of his life feeling loved and cared for.
