Neglected For 10 Years, Senior Dog Had Maggots Crawling In His Infected Skin

 The Animal Cruelty Section of ANNA Shelter had experienced a relatively calm month, until a distressing call came in—a dog in dire need of help. As a dog lover myself, stories like these truly touch my heart.

Officer Duckett, who had been fielding calls all day, encountered one of the most severe cases of neglect in his entire career. The dog they rescued, a senior canine named Junior, had endured unimaginable suffering but was now receiving the care he so desperately deserved.

Dr. Crystal Franklin and her dedicated team at the ANNA Wellness Center-Erie wasted no time in assessing the ailing dog's condition and formulating a comprehensive treatment plan.

Tauna, a compassionate groomer from Posh Paws Dog Spa, generously volunteered her services and arrived at the shelter to help restore Junior's neglected appearance. Years of matting and neglect had rendered his fur unmanageable, obscuring his vision and restricting his movement. Estimated to be around 10 years old or even older, Junior currently resides in the shelter's wellness center, receiving the care and attention he so desperately needs. However, the shelter is actively seeking a compassionate hospice foster family who can provide him with a loving home for his remaining time.

Despite his previous suffering, Junior has made remarkable progress under the shelter's care. He now revels in the simple joy of strolling across the grass, his tail wagging with newfound happiness. He displays an affectionate nature, eager to receive and give love. However, he still experiences discomfort and requires pain medication to alleviate his suffering.
